Traveling through life, one day at a time.

About

It seems like more and more people have a blog, and I can only surmise that there are tons of blogs out there, but perhaps not so many people reading them.  My blog will probably be “JAB” – just another blog.  But I enjoy writing, and this helps me get my thoughts organized and out in the open.  Perhaps someday I might even meet one or two people through this, making new friends in the process.

I live in West Des Moines, Iowa.  I grew up in the shadow of Washington, DC, and that was an interesting place to live.  But I’m much happier out here in the Midwest, and I don’t believe I will be moving back to the East Coast anytime soon.

By trade, I am a network geek.  I am a Security Analyst for my company, which means I support my company’s network by evaluating new threats, looking for evidence of intrusions, review changes for security violations, and generally work to keep our network secure.  I have worked with technology in some fashion since the early 1980′s, when I bought my first Radio Shack TRS-80.  I’m not much into programming.  I have found that I get a great deal of satisfaction by building and securing networks.  I also enjoy developing my forensic skills, using them to uncover the secrets that devices and network traffic can hide underneath the surface.  Some of my blog posts will address this side of my life because I believe that I have something to give back to my peers.

A fair number of my posts deal with firearms rights.  I am a member of the Iowa Firearms Coalition, the NRA, and the Second Amendment Foundation, and I support the efforts to protect firearms rights for all citizens of Iowa and the US.  If you can’t trust someone with a firearm out in public, then that person doesn’t belong out in public in the first place!

I am a “middle of the road” conservative.  Thus, the name – Right of Middle.  The most important concepts that I believe our government officials need to follow are those of fiscal responsibility and obedience to the Constitution.  Our rights are our rights, and they are not negotiable.

I maintain two pages for The Des Moines Examiner.  The first is Des Moines Gun Rights Examiner, where I cover firearms related information pertinent to Des Moines and Iowa.  The second one is Des Moines Buccaneers Examiner, where I cover games, news, and information about the USHL Des Moines Buccaneers.  Please visit those pages and subscribe to them if you find them of interest.

Sad that the Examiner folks are being idiots. I will add this to my “local bloggers” folder so I can keep up with the hijinks in DM. Western Iowa has a friend in Matt Windschitl, and since he’s my state rep (and his parents run the local gun store) I stay in touch with him from time to time.
    Keep up the good work.

I stumbled on your b l o g by way of comments on Press-Citizen. If the Examiner got you spinning, I can only wonder what reaction you get to some of the ‘writing’ on the P-C … but that’s a discuss for another time.

Considering your background one would think you’d be an extreme liberal. Funny how we only think we know others. Makes you want to stop and ponder first before you jump in and make statements that are WRONG! LOL

My family is equally divided between the right and left. Consequently, I’ve received a rather broad view of life. That’s resulted in a pretty middle-of-the-road view of things. Well until something I have strong feelings about is in play. You know … I’m in my intellect until you step on a belief and then BOOM! my heart and real feelings kick in.

My point is that our current times have brought out how people really feel – not what they think. And for the most part that’s a good thing. Finally, issues like religion and politics are being discussed. But not philosophically … but as they affect our lives. As an example, gun control becomes the individual right to self protection/preservation (if successful).

If you are that wordsmith that you feel you are … write on brother. I’m serious. The ability to communicate is needed now more than ever. Being conservative doesn’t mean dead between the ears. Everything new isn’t good for you without first passing through that thing called a brain.

Besides … why would God have made us desire to hit the mark and not given us the tools to do so. Alas … and then Remington was born.
